Jim's Place- Clarks Summit, PA

The NEPA Nation has informed me that Jim's Place is no longer in business.

I first learned about the reincarnation of Jim's Place from a feature article in the Abington Journal.  I remember eating at Jim's many years ago when it was located in Factoryville (now Bell's County Line Pub and Eatery) so I was excited to know it was newly located in a house-like structure next to Gerrity's Supermarket in Clarks Summit.  The first thing I noticed when walking in was the nice covered and heated balcony with a few tables overlooking the quiet neighborhood street.  I thought it looked like a nice place to chill out for a quiet dinner.  The dining room is small and includes just 3 tables, but it's very neatly decorated inside.  I got the impression that the modern day Jim's Place is more more of a takeout place that provides highly personalized service.  The personalized service was evident when (presumably) the friendly owner came out to greet each guest and thank them for their business, which was a nice touch.  I remember the previous location had a larger dining area and full bar, but the setup makes a lot of sense given the neighborhood location and building structure.  You get a really tight-knit community feel when you enter this place, and I must say I enjoyed it.

After the place made its initial impression on me, I ordered a medium 12" pizza. When the pie came out, I noted it was a little small for the price and the cheese was "board-walked" and not spread to the edge, but this is how I always remember the pizza being prepared, so it's true to its roots!  The crust was a bit thicker and more dense and is very, very tasty.  It was done just how I like it - with a crispy bottom, soft in the middle, and packed great flavor. I was quite impressed with the texture and complexity of it.  The sauce was quite neutral with a slight bitterness poking through.  It was not very heavily seasoned which is nice because it allowed the amazing flavor of the crust to shine.  The cheese, which is presumably a mild cheddar is flavorful, a tad salty, and creates a beautiful balance with the rest of the pie.  Overall, the crust was definitely the best part of this pizza and the pizza is exactly as I fondly remember it from back in the day!  I wish Jim's the best of luck in the future and would recommend everyone get there and try out their food soon.
