NEPA Pizza Review's 2013 New Years Resolutions
I've been on the blog scene for about 6 months now, and I'm starting to learn what works and what doesn't, what people want to r...
1. Get moving a little more on my sister blog - 570wings.
Admittedly, wings are not my area of expertise, and I don't have as much to say about wings as I do with pizza, but this is a very popular request from readers and people I talk to, so I want to get this pilot project off the ground and running. Look for 1 review per month in the wing category, as I don't want to take away from my main blog, and venture too far into an area where I don't have quite as much expertise. It might be better for me to find a reliable partner in this venture, preferably someone in Luzerne County.
2. Get more readers, followers, and likes.
Of course, I want to share my opinions with the world. This blog has gotten way more traffic in a 6 month period than I expected, but of course I want more. I refuse to "sell out" by filling up your twitter and facebook feeds with strings of tweets. My goal is to send out less than 2 tweets per day, unless I'm responding to fellow tweeters. I may look to an occasional pizza gift certificate giveaways, but the pizza guy will not sell out because I want organic growth of people who follow and read because they want to, not because I advertised myself and begged for followers.
3. Make my website more useful and appealing.
Since I have a lot of content now, I want to make the content searchable, make the blog cleaner looking and easier to navigate. I'm not an artsy person, but I need to figure out how to take better photos, and make the look of the website more appealing. I don't have much web design experience, so I'll be learning on the fly! In any event, look for a more appealing and easier to navigate website!
4. A better rating system
I've always been frustrated with my text 5/5 system, and I see so many other cool blogs have neat pictures, stars, grease stains, and other visually appealing ratings. I want to do that too to give readers who don't necessarily have time to read the entire blog post a quick reference which is easy to view and understand. Since I have multiple metrics, this becomes more difficult and time consuming, but I would like to try. Adding another metric or two dealing with the pizzeria itself such as service, cleanliness, atmosphere is another thing I've been kicking around.
5. Get to Luzerne County
As you might have noticed, I'm a bit light on the Luzerne County pizzeria's, and that's a product of location. There is however a strong demand from readers to review Luzerne county pizzerias as you can see on my list of reader suggestions. Somehow I need to cover more of Luzerne County more frequently without burning up tons of gasoline!
6. More menus
I've collected quite a few menus in my travels, but I don't yet have enough to call myself a website that people can rely on to get menu information at any time. I know that there are pdf's available online that I can easily download, but I really don't want to pilfer other people's work, and that takes the fun out of collecting menus. It's kind of like stamping a passport in my mind!
I have several more ideas of things that I would like to accomplish with this blog in 2013, but I think the 6-point plan above will keep me busy for some time to come! Do you have any suggestions of what you might want to see on the NEPApizzareview? Leave me a comment below or shoot me an email firstname.lastname@example.org!
