A Little Pizza Heaven - Scranton.

A Meat-Lover's Pizza Sent From Heaven!

One of the pitfalls of being the NEPA Pizza Reviewer and going to so many new pizzerias is that I don't get a chance to go back to many of my favorite pizzerias nearly as often as I like.  This is certainly the case with A Little Pizza Heaven, which I reviewed nearly 4 years ago and unfortunately have not visited since, but I have kept up with them on their instagram account.  I finally had the chance to stop back in thanks to the owners' generosity and donating to the "Pizza Tour of NEPA" basket that I am putting together to benefit the Keystone College Scholarship Fund for students.  Of course, if I'm going to stop in a great pizza shop, I'm going to order a pizza!

Last time I ate at A Little Pizza Heaven, I ordered a plain pizza to go and rushed in and rushed out.  The place always struck me as a place that I wanted to dine in and stay a while as well as take the First Lady of NEPA Pizza on a date to get a nice Italian dinner and some pizza.  This time, I decided to eat in and order something other than a plain pizza.  I've seen so many mouth-watering pizzas on the 'lil pizza heaven instagram that I had to enlist the owner's help in what to order.  He recommended the Italian Stallion pizza which is essentially a very high-end meat-lover's pizza!  The menu describes it as "fresh dough with a crushed tomato sauce, topped with pepperoni, sausage, prosciutto, soppressata, and fresh mozzarella."  It didn't require much convincing for me to order this carnivore's delight pizza!

As I sat in the small, but very comfortable and cozy dining area, I noted how many people seemed to be repeat customers as they seemed to know each other and the staff.  It really had a down-home, casual Italian type of feel that is a wonderful setting for a meal.  When the pizza came out, it was stunningly beautiful.  Believe it or not, I don't normally get excited about taking pictures of food because I think it's strange to stop everything and try to take a decent picture when I have no artistic talents at all and am a pretty bad photographer!  This pizza looked like it came straight out of a pizza magazine and was made to be on my instagram feed!  I snapped a few photos and a video and was immediately disappointed with my work because my terrible photography skills didn't do the pizza justice at all!

I was not disappointed with the taste of this pizza, however.  I usually don't order meat lover's pizza, or pizza with more than one meat because the pizza usually turns out to be very salty and greasy and upsets my stomach.  This pizza could not be farther from that generalization.  The meats were tender and tasty and really had a perfect balance of salty meat and sweet tomatoes.  Along with the fresh mozzarella and light crust, this pizza struck a wonderful blend of flavors and textures.  The crust was so light and slightly chewy, but also crispy with an amazing bubble pattern.  The chunky tomato sauce was so flavorful and was obviously constructed from high quality tomatoes (I suspect san marzano).  And the cheese was just the perfect compliment to the savory meats that worked together to provide an incredible pizza.  This was a fantastic pizza and I'm glad I took the suggestion to give it a try.

The bottom line is that A Little Pizza Heaven serves up an excellent pizza and great Italian food for very competitive prices.  They are the quintessential small business that provides a great product and service and gives back to the community.  I highly recommend that you give this 'lil pizza place a try in the near future!  If you have visited A Little Pizza Heaven, please share your thoughts in the comments!
