It's a heavyweight title fight for the ages! In one corner, we have the Champion - Arcaro and Genell (champ only because I historically prefer their pizza) which exudes an old-world Italian style, and classic dishes that make you feel like your great-grandmother prepared them from scratch. And fighting out of the Challenger's corner is Revellos, the recently updated, more modern, cafe style restaurant which is not shy about touting the "Pizza Capital of the World" moniker on the side of their building. Although both of these combatants are known for their signature rectangular pizzas, only one restaurant can come out on top!
Here's the tale of the tape:
Revellos
You can read the round by round summary of how I judged each pizza in detail in my 2 prior posts, so I'll give you the SportsCenter version and scorecard in this post. As I said above, I've long preferred Arcaro's pizza over Revellos, and one one think that would make for an uneventful bout, but I can rise above my preconceived notions and be objective. I tasted the A&G pizza first, and found that to be disappointing for what I'm accustomed to getting there. It was chewy, salty, and overcooked. I did love the sauce though. The sauce is probably the most important component of an old forge pizza to me, but could the sauce alone stand up to the challenge of a perfectly cooked Revellos pizza??? I bit into the challengers pizza and was amazed at how perfectly prepared and cooked it was. I found the sauce to be good, but not nearly as good as A&G's. With that one category out of the way, I had to move onto crust, cheese, overall taste, and other areas. There is little else to discuss here, because the Revellos pizza far outclassed the Arcaro's pizza in nearly every category.
Here is how I scored the fight:
Cheese: Revellos
Sauce: Arcaro and Genell
Crust: Revellos
Cooking/Prep: Revellos
Overall Taste/Quality: Revellos
Champion: REVELLOS
Looks like it was an off day for the champ, do I smell a rematch? I hope so, then I can once again induldge in these 2 fine pizza again in the near future! Next time I'm loading these pizzas up with toppings and possibly bringing guest judges along...
