Cool Atmosphere and a Ton of Topping Choices at UCP!

Margherita Pizza from Ultimate California Pizza in Myrtle Beach, SC

California Vibes in South Carolina

Ultimate California Pizza is a local chain pizzeria with four locations in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  They focus on “handcrafted specialty pizzas” and “create your own masterpiece pizzas” from a wide variety of toppings.  I stopped by their location at 2500 N Kings Hwy C, Myrtle Beach to try a few pizzas.  The place has a very cool beach vibe to it and the staff was super friendly upon entering.  The bartender was also very helpful in walking me through some of the more popular items on the menu.  The service was quick and the pizza was ready in less than 15 minutes.

I ordered a personal buffalo chicken pizza, a medium ultimate four cheese pizza, and a margherita pizza.  With a view of the back kitchen, I could see that they were using fresh dough and a conveyor oven to make and bake the pizzas.  The crusts on all 3 pizzas were fairly dense and chewy with a slight hint of crispness around the edge.  All the pizzas were cooked lightly and made with generous amounts of cheeses.  The prices for the small-sized (personal and medium) pizzas were all relatively high even for a tourist area, but that’s the price of doing business at the beach!

A look at the crust on the UPC pizza. They appear to use a process of pressing and docking the dough, placing on a screen, and cooking in a conveyor.  These are hallmarks of an efficient and consistent process.

You will find my detailed pizza scored and thoughts on each below.  Overall, I enjoyed stopping by Ultimate California Pizza because it had a cool vibe to it and the service was excellent.  The value scores below sort of speak for themselves when considering price, size of pizza, and quality but UCP is definitely a worthy stop for the atmosphere and service while in Myrtle Beach!  They offer a ton of pizza topping options and have something for everyone.

The buffalo chicken pizza featured a “hot wing dip” type mixture of chicken, red onion, celery, buffalo sauce, and cheese layered generously on top of the crust with a layer of cheese baked on top.  It was an interesting presentation with a unique texture and flavor profile.

The ultimate four cheese pizza featured the same dense and chewy crust with a smooth and fairly heavily seasoned sauce and four cheeses including mozzarella, cheddar, monterrey jack, and provolone.  It was a solid combination of cheeses with some reasonable flavor that would be acceptable to many.

The margherita pizza also featured the same crust as the other two pizzas, along with fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced tomatoes, fresh basil, and garlic herb extra virgin olive oil.  The EVOO provided a nice flavor to the pizza, while the cheese, tomatoes, and basil formed a basic flavor profile and decent balance to provide a pizza that gets the job done when you’re hungry at the beach.
