Armetta's Pizzeria - Clarks Summit, PA

After reviewing one of my favorite places, Basilico's, and giving what I felt was a fair and objective review, I thought it was time for me to go and review another of my all time favorites at Armetta's in Chinchilla.  As drove up, I noticed that the place is currently undergoing rennovations, giving the exterior a facelift, and from the look of things, it's going to look even nicer than it did before!  I didn't include a picture of the outdoors as I normally do because of the construction, but I'll be sure to post one after the job is complete.  By the way, the dining room looks neat and tidy, so don't have any reservations about stopping in during the work.

I was torn at which pizza to order, because I love both their New York Style and their Old Forge Pizza.  I'm a thin crust guy to the core so I elected to go with my instincts and order a small new york style.  When the pie came out I was thrilled to see it was exactly as I've had it in the past - perfect!  I was excited because I knew I'd probably enjoy this pizza, and because I get to share with the NEPA nation what I've known for years!

You could tell this pizza maker is an experienced craftsman of his trade and really has a keen attention to detail.  The crust was stretched and baked to perfection, and the cheese and sauce were spread ever so perfectly and evenly to the edge, which is a trademark of a quality pie.  This was one of the few NY pies I've had recently that had a nice crunch to it.  It's so thin, yet has a beautiful crackle when you bite into it which is a feat in itself.  The dough was fresh and had a great bubble pattern, giving the pizza a light and airy consistency.  The pizza didn't flop down when picked it up, instead it stood flat as I prepared to chow down.  The sauce was a nice vibrant, deep red, probably made from high quality crushed plum tomatoes. It's seasoned sparingly which is great because the high quality tomatoes really don't need much help.  Finally, the cheese which was cooked and melted to perfection is also of high quality and lended a hint of saltiness to the equation which just created a perfect balance and a symphony of fresh flavors in my mouth.

I was very pleased with this pizza, and I'm glad I reviewed my 2 favorite pies back-to-back, because it allowed me to compare the two head-to-head.  In that review, I gave Basilico's a 4.5, my highest review to date which isn't a score I like to give out.  After tasting the Armetta's pie, I was unable to detect a single flaw, and for that reason, I am giving Armetta's Pizzeria my first ever 5 star review!

THE BOTTOM LINE:  This pizza critic has been silenced, as I was unable to detect an imperfection here.  The ratings speak for themselves.  I'll also add that the Old Forge is good, but I think there are onions in the sauce, and I know that's a sticking point for some people.  If that's the case go with the NY Style Round!!!
